KKB Interiors
If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live? Sag Harbor
What are three words to describe your style?
1. Thoughtful
2. Functional
3. Personal
Tell us about your childhood bedroom? My childhood bedroom was a traditional, classic girl's room with Laura Ashley bedding. I had a vintage French country iron bed frame that my mom found while antiquing at a wedding in North Carolina, and a vintage Victorian-style dresser with beautiful floral carvings.
What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? When my husband and I got married, we commissioned a piece of art from a local artist whose work we'd admired for years. It's still my favorite piece because of what it symbolized for us at that time.
In the history of design, if you could hire any designer other than yourself, who would it be? Atelier AM or Steven Gambrel
No room is complete without sentimental items! I’m a sucker for things with meaning.
People think of me as tidy, but I am really the messy one… my husband is always picking up after me. But DON’T confuse messy with dirty!
Things you omit from:
A flower arrangement: Lilies! I love them, but the smell is too potent for me
An hors d’oeuvre platter: Nothing, the more the better
A bar cabinet: This goes against popular opinion, but I’m not a tequila drinker
A song for:
Dinner at home: “Coming Home” Leon Bridges
Working at your desk: Truly anything country
Going for a run: I absolutely do not run (ha!), but the song that will always get me out of my seat is “Dancing On My Own” by Robyn
Biggest Vice? Manicures and massages!
If you were on an Ambien high and internet shopping, what would you buy? I know this isn’t technically internet shopping, but keep me off of Realtor.com. If buying a home were that easy, it would be a real issue!
Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how? It depends on the day – both are ever-evolving! Recently, my clothing style has become more pared-back and refined. I gravitate towards elevated basics that look chic without much effort. In contrast, with design, I love exploring new styles and tastes to keep myself on my toes! It’s much more fun having clients with different personal aesthetics.
Who is your star crush? Blake Lively. She is truly my OG girl crush since her Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants days!
What is the thing you would never do on a project, but don’t detest when you see others do it? Bold, eclectic interiors, but I love seeing how other interior designers execute them.
If there were a fire, and you could only keep one design book, what would it be? Timeless: Classic American Architecture for Contemporary Living by Patrick Ahearn. I adore his work and it was one of the first books I purchased after I started KKB Interiors.
For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for? Being timeless and, though it may sound cheesy, designed with love. I'm deeply passionate about creating curated, personalized homes for my clients, and I want each of them to feel how much I cared about their project!
