Matilda Goad
If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live? Somewhere by the sea, and very modern – maybe the Carribean.
Tell us about your childhood bedroom? I grew up in a cottage in the English countryside with low beams and lots of floral wallpaper.
What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? Maybe the sofa from Pinch – I think you can’t skimp on quality soft furnishings.
In the history of design, if you could hire any designer, who would it be? Terrance Conran – I would love to see how he would work with my style.
No room is complete without great lighting.
People think of me as having a femine aesthetic, but I am really someone who enjoys a bit of rugged edges!

Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how? Yes, I like simple, refined basics such as denim and Breton tops - like neutral wall colours - topped off with big characterful eccentric accessories such as bags, shoes and sunnies - which are like textures, prints and knick knacks!
What is the one thing you would never decorate your home with, but don’t detest when you see others do it? Sparse interiors; I just couldn’t do it. I can’t help but collect and gather!
If there were a fire, and you could only keep one design book, what would it be? Billy Baldwin on decorating.
For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for? Creating practical pieces with a point of difference.
