Welcome

“As a resident of the world of design since birth, I’d like to take some time to celebrate some of the people and things in that world that I admire. I hope you come along for the ride. And, as my name has really taken a beating these last couple of years, -thank you Mr. Bezos, - feel free to think of me here by my nickname: Lex. And, please also enjoy this completely un-recognizable and years old headshot.” - Alexa Hampton

If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live? Farmhouse in Coonoor or a villa by the beach in Goa

What are three words to describe your style?

1. Everlasting

2. Elegant

3. Aesthetically functional

Tell us about your childhood bedroom? One room, two single beds shared between my brother and I which holds a lot of memories.

What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? An antique Tibetan certified thangka acquired from the Masters of Bhutan

In the history of design, if you could hire any designer other than yourself, who would it be? Geoffrey Bawa, for his warm tropical interiors.

No room is complete without plants, frames, artifacts and natural lighting.

People think of me as easy going but I am really an easy going stickler.

A song for:

  • Dinner at home: The Last Waltz by Engelbert Humperdinck

  • Working at your desk: Bohemian Rhapsody

  • Going for a run: Sky full of star by Coldplay

Biggest Vice? Working with challenging clients whose interests keep changing with the influence of social media.

If you were on an Ambien high and internet shopping, what would you buy? The world! Anything and everything my eyes desire.

Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how? Of late I tend to lean towards organic fabrics, mainly cotton which are locally manufactured and support local designers and artisans.

Who is your star crush? Since I was into sports from my younger days, it has always been the one and only Prakash Padukone.

What is the thing you would never do on a project, but don’t detest when you see others do it? The use of Stainless Steel! I don’t see myself using it in my designs but never been an eye sore in other designers work.

If there were a fire, and you could only keep one design book, what would it be? Elements of style by Erin Gates

For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for? For being everlasting and yet with the times
