Welcome

“As a resident of the world of design since birth, I’d like to take some time to celebrate some of the people and things in that world that I admire. I hope you come along for the ride. And, as my name has really taken a beating these last couple of years, -thank you Mr. Bezos, - feel free to think of me here by my nickname: Lex. And, please also enjoy this completely un-recognizable and years old headshot.” - Alexa Hampton

If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live? Ooo… so hard to pick just one, ha! I think I would have to pick a cottage on the Cote d’Azur.

What are three words to describe your style?
1.
Beautiful

2. Clean

3. With a dose of History

Tell us about your childhood bedroom? It was blue, green and white. I had a Laura Ashley Brambleberry coverlet and wallpaper border. And I had a white wicker bed.

What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? A chinoiserie black lacquer high boy that is in our living room. At the time it was a huge splurge for us. We were young and living on a tight budget. I just had to have it and its still one of my most treasured pieces.

In the history of design, if you could hire any designer other than yourself, who would it be? Renzo Mongiardino or Jacques Grange.

No room is complete without something alive, a plant, pet, or person.

People think of me as reserved, but I am really introverted. I prefer to listen and observe rather than make small talk.

Things you omit from:

  • A flower arrangement: Carnations

  • An hors d’oeuvre platter: Pigs in a blanket

  • A bar cabinet: Moscato Wine

A song for:

  • Dinner at home: “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell

  • Working at your desk: “Hey Ma” Bon Iver

  • Going for a run: “Viva la Vida” Cold Play

Biggest Vice? Dark Chocolate

If you were on an Ambien high and internet shopping, what would you buy? All things tabletop – china, glassware, table linens, silver, cachepots, candlesticks. I love to set a pretty table!

Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how? Yes, edited, tailored, simple silhouettes.

Who is your star crush? Bradley Cooper

What is the thing you would never do on a project, but don’t detest when you see others do it?
Tassel trims on lamp shades.

If there were a fire, and you could only keep one design book, what would it be? Givenchy Style

For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for? Beauty with substance, authentic, timeless, and livable.
