Welcome

“As a resident of the world of design since birth, I’d like to take some time to celebrate some of the people and things in that world that I admire. I hope you come along for the ride. And, as my name has really taken a beating these last couple of years, -thank you Mr. Bezos, - feel free to think of me here by my nickname: Lex. And, please also enjoy this completely un-recognizable and years old headshot.” - Alexa Hampton

If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live? Without question, Paris.

What are three words to describe your style? Timeless, Approachable, Inviting

Tell us about your childhood bedroom? Totally mod! It had Kelly green shag carpeting, chrome and black leather paperclip chairs and a bold Kelly green and navy graphic stripe that ran around the room.

What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house?  A 19th century American sideboard that I bought off the floor from the Ralph Lauren Stamford store when I worked there as manager. I just sold it.

In the history of design, if you could hire any designer other than yourself, who would it be?  Thomas Britt

No room is complete without a dog.

People think of me as shy, but I am really shy.

Things you omit from:

  • A flower arrangement – carnations or lilies

  • An hors d’oeuvre platter –paper doilies

  • A bar cabinet – Plastic swizzle sticks. They give me the creeps.

A song for:

  • Dinner at home- Natalie Cole’s duet with her dad, “Unforgettable”

  • Working at your desk – Cher’s “Believe”

  • Going for a run –I don’t run.

Biggest Vice? Shopping

If you were on an Ambien high and internet shopping, what would you buy? The first electric SUV, a Rivian.

Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how?  Timeless, easy going and colorful. I’m not the tallest person in the world, so I do have to think about proportion.

Who is your star crush? Cher. I met her once and totally flubbed it. I want a do-over!

What is the thing you would never do on a project, but don’t detest when you see others do it? Scenic wallpaper

If there were a fire, and you could only keep one design book, what would it be?  Bunny Williams’ “An Affair with a House”

For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for?  Livability, attention to detail and, most of all, joy.
