Welcome

“As a resident of the world of design since birth, I’d like to take some time to celebrate some of the people and things in that world that I admire. I hope you come along for the ride. And, as my name has really taken a beating these last couple of years, -thank you Mr. Bezos, - feel free to think of me here by my nickname: Lex. And, please also enjoy this completely un-recognizable and years old headshot.” - Alexa Hampton

If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live? On a beach with beautiful blue water.

What are three words to describe your style? Enduring, Layered, Sophisticated

Tell us about your childhood bedroom. I lived on the 3rd floor of an old Charleston home with white wicker twin beds, a chaise lounge covered in chintz and an antique chest of drawers. As pretty as it was, all I really cared about was the window A/C unit that could produce frost on my windows in the 100 degree heat and the cordless phone (positioned by said chaise) that I spent ½ my waking hours on.

What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? A beautiful Mario Robinson watercolor.

In the history of design, if you could hire any designer other than yourself, who would it be? Renzo Mongiardino

No room is complete without original art.

People think of me as serious, but I am really pretty irreverent and goofy.

Things you omit from:

  • A flower arrangement: carnations!

  • An hors d’oeuvres platter: crumbly cheese

  • A bar cabinet: moschino cherries

A song for

  • Dinner at home: Precious Love, James Morrison

  • Working at your desk: Dime Store Cowgirl, Casey Musgraves

  • Going for a run: Water Me, Lizzo

Biggest vice? Venti Starbucks lattes

Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how? Mostly. I gravitate towards well tailored pieces with classic lines, but love a fun print, bright color or unexpected detail.

Who is your star crush? Stephen Wardell Curry

What is the thing you would never do on a project, but don’t detest when you see others do it? I have learned to never say “never!”

For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for? I’d love for the people who inhabited the homes to think they were the perfect backdrop for the best-lived life they could have had.
