Welcome

“As a resident of the world of design since birth, I’d like to take some time to celebrate some of the people and things in that world that I admire. I hope you come along for the ride. And, as my name has really taken a beating these last couple of years, -thank you Mr. Bezos, - feel free to think of me here by my nickname: Lex. And, please also enjoy this completely un-recognizable and years old headshot.” - Alexa Hampton

If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live? Patmos.

Tell us about your childhood bedroom? I had pale purple-stained paneled walls and orange curtains from my aunt Louise - with collections of natural things displayed about - and, ahem, possibly a homemade driftwood and shell mobile...

What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? Still waiting to invest in that “investment” piece. ( I’ve never purchased anything as an investment, just things I love - I guess if I was a better business person I’d have a list.

In the history of design, if you could hire any designer, who would it be? God.

No room is complete without a dimmer.

People think of me as calm, but I am really anxious.

Things you omit from:

  • A flower arrangement: Dyed flowers

  • An hors d’oeuvre platter: Gluten

  • A bar cabinet: A Measurer

A song for:

  • Dinner at home: Button Up Your Overcoat and Helen Kane-like music (a recent obsession)

  • Working at your desk: Diva soundtrack (that CD lives in the player)

  • Going for a run: Disco

Biggest Vice? Corn chips.

If you were on an Ambien high and internet shopping, what would you buy? Paintings, maybe groceries.

Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how?  Yes, my aesthetic is both vintage and lived in.

Who is your star crush? Daniel Craig

What is the one thing you would never decorate your home with, but don’t detest when you see others do it? White walls

If there were a fire, and you could only keep one design book, what would it be?  A book on dominoes

For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for?  Not from your grandmother’s attic.
