If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live? Harbour Island, Bahamas
What are three words to describe your style? Eclectic traditionalist, Layered, Lived in
Tell us about your childhood bedroom? I feel like my childhood bedroom was such a precursor to the way I design today— surrounded by florals forever and always! My bedroom was clad in Laura Ashely roses— wallpaper paired with matching window treatments and bedding. It was a flower-power dream!
What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? A good quality sofa! I’ve had it now for 10+ years and it sits exactly the same way as it did the day it came off the truck. I have reupholstered it quite a few times but I love that piece.
In the history of design, if you could hire any designer other than yourself, who would it be? In the history of design— siblings: Frances Elkins and David Adler. In current day, Rita Konig and Gil Shafer.
No room is complete without a floral print.
People think of me as interiors obsessed, but I am really into the outdoors too, lol
Things you omit from:
• A flower arrangement: Lillies
• An hors d’oeuvre platter: Bacon wrapped dates
• A bar cabinet: Pre-made cocktail kits
A song for:
• Dinner at home: “Sugar Magnolia - Live in Paris 1972” by Grateful Dead
• Working at your desk: “August 10” by Khruangbin
• Going for a run: “No Mission” by Chi
Biggest Vice? Antique collecting.
If you were on an Ambien high and internet shopping, what would you buy? Airline tickets.
Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how? I’ve actually worked to refine this over the years— so I would say, yes. Invest in pieces you love, layer in some things that feel fresh and make you happy. Same goes for interiors.
Who is your star crush? Brian Jordan Alvarez.
What is the thing you would never do on a project, but don’t detest when you see others do it? Minimalism
What design book do you find yourself going back to again and again? All of Gil Shafer’s books.
For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for? Creating things that are a little different yet rooted in something that feels familiar— that electric traditionalism.
