Ashley Stark
If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live? Hamptons because I enjoy being close to the beach - especially in the summer!
What are three words to describe your style?
1. Classic
2. Edgy
3. On point
Tell us about your childhood bedroom? Very quintessential, Mario Buatta, 80s, pink & green flowers and a big fancy princess bed with a canopy. A lot of pattern on pattern! My mom let me redecorate by the time I was 14 and I chose a blue and white french theme.
What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? A Tommi Parzinger sideboard, I had just gotten into mid century - this piece comes along with me and has been through four of my homes. It's still in its original deep purple lacquer.
In the history of design, if you could hire any designer other than yourself, who would it be?
This is hard, there's so many that I admire! It's too hard to choose just one.
No room is complete without a Stark rug!
People think of me as an influencer, but I am really just living my life/doing my thing!
Things you omit from:
A flower arrangement: I like to stick to one colorway, clean, simple & modern - I omit to mixing colors
An hors d’oeuvre platter: Oversized food, only bite size so people can pick & grab
A bar cabinet: Nothing, there’s nothing better than a well stocked bar
A song for:
Dinner at home: It’s always a battle between my husband and the kids. If it were up to my husband: Grateful Dead. Kids: kidz bop. Me: I’m into music from the 90’s!
Working at your desk: I’m usually on zoom meetings, so I can’t play music
Going for a run: Anything to pump me up
Biggest Vice? Candy, I have the biggest sweet tooth and can't get enough - especially gummies from Europe!
If you were on an Ambien high and internet shopping, what would you buy? So tough, I love to shop online because I don’t have time to go to stores. If I were on an Ambien high a lot of dresses would show up at my door.
Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how? Absolutely, I love dressing in neutrals and definitely texture over pattern - same as my design sense (lot of texture)
Who is your star crush? Gabriel Macht from Suits
What is the thing you would never do on a project, but don’t detest when you see others do it?
Pattern on pattern especially lots of florals.
If there were a fire, and you could only keep one design book, what would it be? Piet Boon books
For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for? Timeless design that never goes out of style
