Welcome

“As a resident of the world of design since birth, I’d like to take some time to celebrate some of the people and things in that world that I admire. I hope you come along for the ride. And, as my name has really taken a beating these last couple of years, -thank you Mr. Bezos, - feel free to think of me here by my nickname: Lex. And, please also enjoy this completely un-recognizable and years old headshot.” - Alexa Hampton

What are three words to describe your style?

1. Printed

2. Eclectic

3. Color

Tell us about your childhood bedroom? Crazy 70s geo squares and stripes in brown and white built-in desks, white shag rug littered with fallen GI Joes.

What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? A german silver bed I made in India. Four poster canopy covered in silver, very romantic and regal.

In the history of design, if you could hire any designer other than yourself, who would it be?
Barregon- I just went to his home in Mexico city love the high/low materials and zen of his world.

No room is complete without art for sure.

People think of me as eclectic, but I am really an art school grad.

 Things you omit from:

  • A flower arrangement: Nothing I am an all in guy

  • An hors d’oeuvre platter: Shrimp, I used to be a cater waiter in school and saw a lot of kitchens…

  • A bar cabinet: Schnapps

A song for:

  • Dinner at home: Lightning Hopkins albums

  • Working at your desk: Radio Paradise World Mix

  • Going for a run: Disco Fever mix

If you were on an Ambien high and internet shopping, what would you buy? A drippy encrusted Larry Poons painting

Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how? In CT I wear layers of vests and wool and look like I am on a Shackleton expedition. In the city I am on Citi Bike a lot so always something bright orange so taxis don’t hit me and sneakers.

Who is your star crush? Maggie Gyllenhaal I saw her in a café and I swear she said she liked my work and I loved hers. I think it happened?

What is the thing you would never do on a project, but don’t detest when you see others do it?
Buy a long linen sectional. I do really want one but have no place it would fit... looks comfy.

If there were a fire, and you could only keep one design book, what would it be?
Woven Cargoes Indian Textiles in the East by John Guy..

For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for? Blockprinting meets art school.
