Welcome

“As a resident of the world of design since birth, I’d like to take some time to celebrate some of the people and things in that world that I admire. I hope you come along for the ride. And, as my name has really taken a beating these last couple of years, -thank you Mr. Bezos, - feel free to think of me here by my nickname: Lex. And, please also enjoy this completely un-recognizable and years old headshot.” - Alexa Hampton

If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live? Somewhere near the beach – any beach! – but if I had to pick, probably on the water somewhere in the Caribbean.

What are three words to describe your style?

1. Colorful

2. Layered

3. Global

Tell us about your childhood bedroom? It was HORRIBLE! Picture bubble-gum pink strié walls – with bubblegum pink foofy drapes to match. I had two twin beds – they were old, heavy mahogany pieces that had been my mom’s when she was little. I slept on one and the other served as a second closet.

What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? A mattress! We bought a Schifman mattress as an anniversary present to ourselves. (Our next investment piece? Art.)

In the history of design, if you could hire any designer other than yourself, who would it be?
Bunny Williams or Albert Hadley.

No room is complete without: Plants!

People think of me as tough, but I am really soft.

Things you omit from:

  • A flower arrangement: Carnations

  • An hors d’oeuvre platter: Cubed Cheese

  • A bar cabinet: An ice bucket

A song for:

  • Dinner at home: Something by Michael Bublé

  • Working at your desk: Pink

  • Going for a run: Dermot Kennedy

Biggest Vice? Cape Cod potato chips!

If you were on an Ambien high and internet shopping, what would you buy? Shoes! It can happen if I’m feeling a little reckless…

Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how? I would say yes! I tend to dress in layers, accessorize in layers… I’m a layer-ist.

Who is your star crush? Josh Duhamel

What is the thing you would never do on a project, but don’t detest when you see others do it? Never *not* use a rug.

If there were a fire, and you could only keep one design book, what would it be? The Big Book of Chic - Miles Redd

For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for? Warm. Lively. Layered. Textured. Different.
