Welcome

“As a resident of the world of design since birth, I’d like to take some time to celebrate some of the people and things in that world that I admire. I hope you come along for the ride. And, as my name has really taken a beating these last couple of years, -thank you Mr. Bezos, - feel free to think of me here by my nickname: Lex. And, please also enjoy this completely un-recognizable and years old headshot.” - Alexa Hampton

If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live?
I do have a second home in East Hampton which is my happy place BUT if I could turn back time and change things around I would get a house somewhere in the south of France of the Cote Dazur.

What are three words to describe your style?

1. Confident

2. Vibey

3. Unique

Tell us about your childhood bedroom? I painted my walls with love quotes in different shades of pink paint on my stark white walls. I had a brushed chrome canopy bed from the Conran shop that i picked out with my mom. I ended up going to the garment district and picking out two sheer pink fabrics and draped them over and around the bed in a very Japanese style.

What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? An Ettore Sottsass marble mirror from an auction. It was the beginning of my love for Memphis.

In the history of design, if you could hire any designer other than yourself, who would it be? Pierre Cardin or Yves Saint Laurent.

No room is complete without fresh flowers.

People think of me as wild, but I am really wild.

Things you omit from:

  • A flower arrangement: Green filler leaves

  • An hors d’oeuvre platter: Precut packaged cheeses

  • A bar cabinet: Anything is fair game in there

A song for:

  • Dinner at home: Tracy Chapman

  • Working at your desk: A Chopin ballades

  • Going for a run: J. Lo Waiting for Tonight

Biggest Vice? Pizza

If you were on an Ambien high and internet shopping, what would you buy? Shoes.

Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how? Yes they are usually French or Italian.

Who is your star crush? Brad Pitt.

What is the thing you would never do on a project, but don’t detest when you see others do it? Having a panic attack.

If there were a fire, and you could only keep one design book, what would it be?
May I Come In by, Wendy Goodman.

For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for? Innovation.
