Welcome

“As a resident of the world of design since birth, I’d like to take some time to celebrate some of the people and things in that world that I admire. I hope you come along for the ride. And, as my name has really taken a beating these last couple of years, -thank you Mr. Bezos, - feel free to think of me here by my nickname: Lex. And, please also enjoy this completely un-recognizable and years old headshot.” - Alexa Hampton

If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live? London

What are three words to describe your style?

1. Timeless

2. Handcrafted

3. Relaxed Luxury

Tell us about your childhood bedroom? Second floor, knotty pine paneling, twin beds with orange knit coverlet, a record player.

What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? I am not sure I have an investment piece?!?!

In the history of design, if you could hire any designer other than yourself, who would it be?
TH Robsjohn-Gibbings would have created something I love, but I would be happy with a Daryl Carter or Robert Stilin project.

No room is complete without music.

People think of me as outgoing, but I am really reserved.

Things you omit from:

  • A flower arrangement: The flowers

  • An hors d’oeuvre platter: Hot Wings

  • A bar cabinet: Moonshine

A song for:

  • Dinner at home: Lounge Music like Hotel Costes is still great 20 years later for a dinner party or a playlist curated for the mood… Currently, I am listening to one that is a great everyday wind down with Billie Eilish among others.

  • Working at your desk: Anything by Diana Krall or if you need some silly fun music to keep it light-hearted Radio Saint Barths is the perfect blend of fun and stupid.

  • Going for a run: Ocean Drive by Duke Dumont

Biggest Vice? Not saying “no”.

If you were on an Ambien high and internet shopping, what would you buy? Cars. It is a problem.

Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how? Absolutely. Casual clean and monochromatic, but the luxury is in the subtle details.

Who is your star crush? I don’t really know any movie stars.

What is the thing you would never do on a project, but don’t detest when you see others do it?
A draped ceiling.

If there were a fire, and you could only keep one design book, what would it be? Books are heavy! I would grab my iPhone, it has every amazing idea I have ever experienced since 2010.

For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for?
Soothing and understated with an attention to detail.
