Welcome

“As a resident of the world of design since birth, I’d like to take some time to celebrate some of the people and things in that world that I admire. I hope you come along for the ride. And, as my name has really taken a beating these last couple of years, -thank you Mr. Bezos, - feel free to think of me here by my nickname: Lex. And, please also enjoy this completely un-recognizable and years old headshot.” - Alexa Hampton

If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live? Paris!

What are three words to describe your style? 1. Colorful 2. Joyful 3. Elegant

Tell us about your childhood bedroom? It was painted lavender with frilly curtains and white furniture a la Dorothy Draper.

What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? My custom Edelman patent leather sofa.  Still a favorite!

In the history of design, if you could hire any designer other than yourself, who would it be? Miles Redd

No room is complete without great art.

People think of me as a carefree risk taker, but I am really a consummate worrier

Things you omit from:

  • A flower arrangement: Baby’s breath

  • An hors d’oeuvre platter: Smoked salmon

  • A bar cabinet: Cheap liquor

A song for:

  • Dinner at home: “Everything Is Never Enough” by Wasis Diop

  • Working at your desk: Prefer a good podcast

  • Going for a run: “Bring Em Out” by T.I.

Biggest Vice? I do like my wine. ;-)

If you were on an Ambien high and internet shopping, what would you buy? Net-a-porter.com shopping spree!

Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how?  Yes. I love fashion and often wear color and pattern, similar to my work.

Who is your star crush? Idris Elba

What is the thing you would never do on a project, but don’t detest when you see others do it?  A room of only shades of beige.  It’s beautiful and calm, but I don’t think I could do it.

If there were a fire, and you could only keep one design book, what would it be? Jean-Louis Denoit’s book

For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for? I would like to be known as using a kaleidoscopic mix of color, pattern, and texture to create rooms evocative of one emotion above all others – joy!
