Welcome

“As a resident of the world of design since birth, I’d like to take some time to celebrate some of the people and things in that world that I admire. I hope you come along for the ride. And, as my name has really taken a beating these last couple of years, -thank you Mr. Bezos, - feel free to think of me here by my nickname: Lex. And, please also enjoy this completely un-recognizable and years old headshot.” - Alexa Hampton

What are three words to describe your style? Eclectic, Intelligent (I hope), Elegant

Tell us about your childhood bedroom? At 13, black walls, David Hicks carpet, horn mirror, low slung beds and David Bowie posters.

What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? Two apt ware urns from A. Smith Antiques on 60th Street. I love them every bit as much today as I did then.

In the history of design, if you could hire any designer other than yourself, who would it be? Mark Hampton- duh.

No room is complete without books.

People think of me as loud and funny, but I am really much louder and much funnier.

Things you omit from:

  • A flower arrangement: baby’s breath

  • An hors d’oeuvre platter: smoked salmon (bad breath)

  • A bar cabinet: crème de menthe

A song for:

  • Dinner at home: “Superstition” by Stevie Wonder

  • Working at your desk: Anything by Jamiroquai.

  • Going for a run: Running where?! Why?! Maybe the theme from Jaws.

Biggest Vice? All of them.

If you were on an Ambien high and internet shopping, what would you buy? This has happened- I bought 11 boxes of mozzarella sticks by accident.

Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how?  No. My wardrobe is a sad black blur.

Who is your star crush? Chris Hemsworth. John Hamm. Alexander Skarsgård.

What is the thing you would never do on a project, but don’t detest when you see others do it?  Use a lot of Victorian Furniture.

If there were a fire, and you could only keep one design book, what would it be?   Neoclassicism in the North, Hakan Groth

For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for? Being beautiful and livable.
