Welcome

“As a resident of the world of design since birth, I’d like to take some time to celebrate some of the people and things in that world that I admire. I hope you come along for the ride. And, as my name has really taken a beating these last couple of years, -thank you Mr. Bezos, - feel free to think of me here by my nickname: Lex. And, please also enjoy this completely un-recognizable and years old headshot.” - Alexa Hampton

If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live? A remote island, I love the beach!

What are three words to describe your style? 1. Inspired 2. Edited 3. Intentional

Tell us about your childhood bedroom? I had an early American bed, white walls, and found art and objects on the walls.

In the history of design, if you could hire any designer other than yourself, who would it be? Michael Taylor

No room is complete without a point of view.

People think of me as serious, but I can be silly- just ask my kids.

Things you omit from:

  • A flower arrangement: I don’t.

  • An hors d’oeuvre platter: celery and carrot sticks one day- maybe home made potato chips the next

  • A bar cabinet: Courvoisier

A song for:

  • Dinner at home: “We Are Family”

  • Working at your desk: Anything by Amy Winehouse

  • Going for a run: Anything by Cher

Biggest Vice? Coffee

If you were on an Ambien high and internet shopping, what would you buy? More likely a melatonin high but okay- a Cy Twombly sculpture.

Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how?  Yes. Grey, Blue, and Streamlined. It’s a uniform basically- keep mornings easy.

Who is your star crush? Nina Simone

What is the thing you would never do on a project, but don’t detest when you see others do it? High gloss lacquered walls.

If there were a fire, and you could only keep one design book, what would it be?  Wendy Moonan’s New York Splendor: Rooms to Remember. I may be biased as a favorite project is featured; but really it is a beautiful book.

For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for?  Personal, innovative, unique spaces created for the people that live there.
