Welcome

“As a resident of the world of design since birth, I’d like to take some time to celebrate some of the people and things in that world that I admire. I hope you come along for the ride. And, as my name has really taken a beating these last couple of years, -thank you Mr. Bezos, - feel free to think of me here by my nickname: Lex. And, please also enjoy this completely un-recognizable and years old headshot.” - Alexa Hampton

If you could have another home anywhere, where would you live? New Orleans. I feel a special connection with that city. I love the mix of culture, architecture, music, and food!

What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? It was bare and basic. My parents didn’t have the means nor care about creating a beautiful space for me. It was about having only what you need and not much more.

In the history of design, if you could hire any designer, who would it be? Jean-Michel Frank. He was the modernist of his time and even now, his work and vision continue to transcend trends and is always current.

No room is complete without cut flowers.

People think of me as the life of the party, but I am actually quite shy.

Things you omit from:

  • A flower arrangement: The carnations must go!

  • An hors d’oeuvre platter: The cured meat as I am a vegetarian.

  • A bar cabinet: Campari, it’s too bitter for me!

A song for:

  • Dinner at home: The French Café Jazz mix on Spotify.

  • Working at your desk: I find I focus best when I put on any album by Jungle.

  • Going for a run: My runs always start and end with The Killers or Cake.

Biggest Vice? Ice cream-- especially coffee ice cream.

If you were on an Ambien high and internet shopping, what would you buy? I don’t take Ambien but sometimes I go a little crazy and splurge on art from 1stDibs.

Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how? Yes, they do. When I am in architect mode, I wear all black. It makes me focus. When I am in interiors mode, I tend to wear colorful and stylish clothing.

Who is your star crush? Cilian Murphy – there is just something about him…

What is the one thing you would never decorate your home with, but don’t detest when you see others do it? Wicker chairs – anywhere. Inside or outside.

For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for? I would like my work to be known for its beauty and its clean, well-proportioned design.
