Welcome

“As a resident of the world of design since birth, I’d like to take some time to celebrate some of the people and things in that world that I admire. I hope you come along for the ride. And, as my name has really taken a beating these last couple of years, -thank you Mr. Bezos, - feel free to think of me here by my nickname: Lex. And, please also enjoy this completely un-recognizable and years old headshot.” - Alexa Hampton

If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live? A brownstone in New York City

What are three words to describe your style?

1. Thoughtful

2. Alluring

3. Cultivated

Tell us about your childhood bedroom? I loved my room as a kid! I still remember picking out the primary fabric—a red/blue/green Ralph Lauren tartan. The walls were painted in a golden khaki hue, and the ceiling fan was replaced by a Coca-Cola Tiffany style fixture over my bed. The bed, which I still own and will hopefully pass on to a son or daughter one day, is full-sized 4-poster bed with a mattress height that towered over the room. The Capet was dark navy wool, and the bed was dressed with a chambray-covered duvet, pinstripe sheets, and flanged tartan shams.

What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? A Richard Shapiro solid brass art easel.

In the history of design, if you could hire any designer other than yourself, who would it be? David Collins

No room is complete without, moveable drinks tables.

People think of me as an overthinker, and I am really an overthinker.

Things you omit from:

  • A flower arrangement: Filler

  • An hors d’oeuvre platter: Bread

  • A bar cabinet: Unused decanters

A song for:

  • Dinner at home: “Nessun Dorma” by Aretha Franklin

  • Working at your desk: “Closer to Fine” by the Indigo Girls

  • Going for a run: Whitney Houston’s “Step by Step”

Biggest Vice? Buying chairs

If you were on an Ambien high and internet shopping, what would you buy? A first-class, one-way plane ticket to Europe.

Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how? Yes, they are casual, luxe, and comfortable.

Who is your star crush? 1990s Brad Pitt.

What is the thing you would never do on a project, but don’t detest when you see others do it? Pattern on pattern

If there were a fire, and you could only keep one design book, what would it be? I would let them burn and grab my Bruce Weber books

For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for? Inspiring others to buy quality pieces when designing their home
