Welcome

“As a resident of the world of design since birth, I’d like to take some time to celebrate some of the people and things in that world that I admire. I hope you come along for the ride. And, as my name has really taken a beating these last couple of years, -thank you Mr. Bezos, - feel free to think of me here by my nickname: Lex. And, please also enjoy this completely un-recognizable and years old headshot.” - Alexa Hampton

If you could have a second home anywhere, where would you live? I have a second home in the Hamptons, where I currently am quarantining, I wake up every day….thankfully! and walk to Mecox Bay with Quincy our delicious pup and relish in the beauty that is Eastern Long Island.

What are three words to describe your style? 1. Curated 2. Comfortable 3. Textured

Tell us about your childhood bedroom?  I grew up in Westchester County, just outside NYC in a “California Contemporary Raised Ranch”. My bedroom was decorated in oranges, golds & browns. It was Safari themed with posters of a lion and tiger hanging over my bed and cowhides on the floor. The curtains and bed covering were an African abstract print from Calico Corners that my Mother made.

What’s the first investment piece you ever bought for your house? I was shopping at a Wendy Antique Show and happened upon an Austrian Biedermeier Armoire and matching washstand. I needed a place for my TV in my new NYC apartment and a nightstand in my bedroom and I knew they would be perfect. The strong lines, inlaid ebony marquetry in the beautiful fruitwood veneered pieces spoke to me and I immediately knew I had to own them.

In the history of design, if you could hire any designer other than yourself, who would it be? Jean Michel Frank

No room is complete without: Something Black

People think of me as only loving expensive things: But I am really a person who just loves beautiful, well-crafted things

Things you omit from:

  • A flower arrangement: Gladiolas

  • An hors d’oeuvre platter: Blue Cheese

  • A bar cabinet: Plastic glassware

A song for:

  • Dinner at home: Sarah Vaughan – Misty

  • Working at your desk: Hotel Costes – A Decade (entire album)

  • Going for a run: Glitterball – Sigma & Ella Henderson

Biggest Vice? Watching The Real Housewives

If you were on an Ambien high and internet shopping, what would you buy? When I take Ambien I always fall asleep within 15 minutes…however, my partner, Alex, is a different story…he’s shopping away! An example is a $1500 wood chipper that he bought on Amazon & had it delivered to our Manhattan apartment!

Do your clothes reflect your design sensibility, if so, how?  Tom Ford, Brunello Cucinelli, Hermes & Uniqlo….Yes as I love fine craftmanship, a perfect fit, luxurious textiles, beautiful design, and of course in the case of Uniqlo jeans and basic shirts… an amazing value.

Who is your star crush? Joe Manganiello

What is the thing you would never do on a project, but don’t detest when you see others do it? Too many “things” ie. Layered Clutter…when it’s well arranged and is personal somehow it works.

If there were a fire, and you could only keep one design book, what would it be? Parisian Interiors, Bold Elegant, Refined  ….or….my book Outside the Box 😉

For posterity, what would you like your work to be known for?  That I created chic, comfortable rooms that reflected my clients’ personalities and dreams.
